Our program encourages independent learning and research. Research in GME is broadly defined as all scholarly activity, including but not limited to case reports, review articles, retrospective research and prospective research. Residents are also involved with various annual quality improvement projects. Outside of independent research, residents may also elect to participate in a research elective in collaboration with Dr. Greg Poland from Mayo Clinic, Rochester. We promote all residents to be curious, develop the skills needed to accurately assess, critically analyze, and fluently discuss medical literature.

Our research opportunities are continuously evolving. Some of our projects from this past year include but are not limited to: US Expanded Access Program for Convalescent Plasma for the Treatment of Patients with COVID-19 in conjunction with Mayo Clinic, COVID-19 inflammatory response/cytokine storm with regard to immunosenescence, Cohort study of polymerase chain positive SARS Cov2 (COVID-19) patients and corresponding antibody detection. Additionally, we have had residents publish in Mayo clinic proceedings and CHEST among other notable journals.
